I haven’t been writing as much lately, I need to work on that; but I’m a lot busier these days. But alas, here’s an update on my life. Life is chugging along at an exponential rate. It’s so strange that I’ve been gone from Albuquerque since August 17th, so it’s been something like a month and a half. It’s creepy how fast time flies…since I last updated things that have happened. Bargh. …
Nuit Blanche—An all over Paris art event displaying installations. It was really really amazing, but at the same time really really crowded at the most famous artists’ installations. There was one installation called purple rain, in wherein there was literally: purple rain, and visitors were given umbrellas to walk through the purple rain, I got a glimpse and then quickly went away because the crowd was terrifying, the whole street was PACKED. I had this fear in the back of my head that some sort of emergency or violence would ensue and that people would stampede and I would be trampled to death like in the Lion King, the line was literally about 500 people long. In addition to purple rain there were gazebos full of hanging glow sticks with projections, some animal noises and strobe lights with sculptures…you would have had to have been there, but the whole thing was really great. I felt bad for the cleanup crews. You know how many beer bottles and cigarette butts the city of Paris can leave in one night out?
Went on a picnic with some Erasmus students in some famous park…the only park in Paris where you have to pay. Grr. We had the most epic time finding its….its name now eludes me. At any rate, this park has peacocks running around…very amusing. They were missing most of their tail feathers, I think people take them in exchange for feeding them their baguettes. You win some you lose some, poor peacock. I came to the conclusion that they are indeed, just the drag queens of turkeys.
I got a job, wooohoo. First interview. They loved me, I will leave it at that. So my job entails babysitting and teaching English at the same time. It’s through an agency called Baby Languages and they find families and babysitters whose first language is English…the families want their kids to learn English, voila. So I’ll be the nanny named Bran[don]. Woooh! At 12 euros an hour it’s a really good deal. That’s like 15 dollars an hour. A few days a week, cool, I guess I can live without so much gratuitous free time, although it was really nice for a month and some change.
I’ve finally had to start doing some work at school, albeit via group projects…Eh. I’m starting to get to know more and more classmates, making more and more acquaintances. I’ve been running into people I know in different places around Paris, so it’s starting to feel more like home.
This week was fashion week and I almost forgot! What the hell…I got so caught up in my own life, I completely forgot about the fashion world! …but it’s rare that I ever keep up in depth with designer collections and do my fashion homework. I tend to just skim through the magazines watch the people on the streets and do my own thing. But fashion week I did see! …. But not a fashion show..oh no, who do you people think I am?
It’s damn near impossible to get into a fashion show if you’re not a somebody, or his date. Or full of money, or working for these people, and I knew this maybe that’s why I pushed it into the back of my mind…but what I should have thought about is how epic it is just to be near the fashion show, which I did discover. Although I’m ushered away at the door by the security, being left outside like a sad puppy dog abandoned on the side of the road (I can only hear the thumpa thumpa of the music and see flashes from photographers) to stand outside is an experience in itself.
Never have I been surrounded by that many beautiful and stylish people! Watching the people who could get in and all the people on the street I took a lot of pictures [see facebook].
